Message from the Chair Welcome
to the Safety Advisory Committee Website. The
Safety Advisory Committee for the Village of Bible Hill meets the 1st
Monday of each month. These meetings
are open to all residents of Bible Hill and are held in the Commission
Chambers at 67 Pictou Rd, Bible Hill. This
Committee is made up of four Bible Hill volunteer residents, one RCMP
representative, a Representative from the Bible Hill Fire Brigade which serve
a two year term, and one Village Commissioner. We
encourage you to complete the attached survey if you have not already done
so. These surveys are a great tool for
us as your Safety Advisory Committee and also to your Village Commissioners. All surveys are discussed and reviewed by
our Committee and then forwarded to the Village Commission with our
recommendations. Each
year the Safety Advisory Committee sponsors a Family Fun Day in February,
with a magician, cookie decorating, games, crafts and peanut free treats. If you
plan to operate a motorized watercraft of any size in Nova Scotia waters, you
must be licensed as of September 2009. The Safety Advisory Committee will be
hosting Small Pleasure Craft Safety Course on March 13, 2010. This course is
open to all ages from 8 years and up. Pre-registration is required by
March 8, 2010. This comprehensive session will last about 5 hours and,
upon completion, you will receive your Small Craft License. The cost of this
course is $50, payable the day of the course, and includes your workbook,
testing, temporary license and a light lunch and coffee. To
pre-register for this course please contact the Village office at 893-8083 or
by dropping into the Office at 67 Pictou Rd. On Saturday,
May 29th, 2010 we will be holding a Bicycle Safety Course at the
Agridome on the Provincial Exhibition Grounds. For more information on this, please
contact the Village Office by calling 893-8083. In
June we will be co-sponsoring a babysitting course with Maggie’s Place. Late
August, just in time for back to school, we hold a Child ID and Back to
School Bus/Crosswalk Safety Program. This event is geared to young students
who may need a refresher in crosswalk safety or who are about to embark on
their very first school bus ride. It is full of fun for the young students
and each child is given a lunch bag with school items inside. We
also co-sponsor the Safe Halloween event in October each year. Mark
your calendars for these events now so you don’t miss them. Susan Thompson-Mahar
